I made these cats a little while ago as presents for two special babies in our lives. They’re made using a mixture of new and vintage fabrics, patchwork detailing, and hand embroidered faces and claws.
The mint and yellow one was for a first-born son of some great friends of ours in London. We haven’t yet been able to meet the little man in person, but sent him a parcel of handmade uncle and aunt gifts (including this cat), shortly after he was born.
My brother bought me the crazy vintage brown and yellow print from a flea market (he thought it was revolting but knew I’d appreciate it!).

The green and pink cat was a first birthday present for a little girl whose entrance into the world I’d been lucky enough to be part of (giving hands-on Reiki to her mum during the birth).
The flowery piece is a print I bought in Rajasthan, India, in 1997. I’ve just rediscovered it recently and used it as detailing on a top, for a cushion, and this cat. So far…!

Those cats are so cool and full of character. Fabrics beautiful colour combos too – I want to know how to make the! can you do it without a sewing machine!?
How about showing us your sock animals…they are very cute!
Hi Skyler : )
I put the cat toys together with a sewing machine (apart from the tail which I sew on by hand), but you could do it without a sewing machine at all and sew the pieces together using back stitch. It would take longer, but have an added handmade charm.
The pattern is very simple. Basically long rectangles for the arms, legs and tail (shorter and fatter for the arms and legs). You can kind of see what shape the body is, just free draw it and it will have character and charm! Ears are slightly rounded triangles. Make it up! It will be delightful and have its own unique personality.
Sock toys are coming! : )
I really enjoy your blog here, thank you very much you have helped me out greatly
love lots.
Hi Lavonda, I’m glad you’ve been enjoying my blog. Have a great day. Lucy : )
Hey, great blog, but I don’t understand how to add your site in my rss reader. Can you Help me please?
Hi Mariana.
I’m so glad you like my blog! Thanks for taking the time to contact me. I’m new to the RSS feeder stuff I’m afraid, but hopefully I’ll be able to help with your question! To add my site to your RSS reader, did you click on the ‘Subscribe’ button on my sidebar? If you already have an RSS reader, hopefully it will have come up as one of the options on the list. Otherwise, choose from one of the options listed there. If you already have an account with Google, Yahoo, Blogger etc, then that might be an easy way to go, or try using FeedBlitz for example, which lets you choose various ways to receive updates (by email, Skype etc).
Hope this helps! Let me know if you’re still stuck.
Take care
